The 3rd day in the United States
サンタバーバラ空港で日本から来た母と合流
I met up with my mom at the airport of Santa Barbara.
大学で教授をしているアメリカ人の友人を訪問
My friend, she is a professor, came and picked us up.
会議があるとのことで母と大学内を散策して学食ランチ
She had a meetnig, so I walked around the campus and had lunch.
大きな木と大きな海に囲まれて気持ちがいい
The campus is surrounded by big trees and a pacific ocean.
過ごしやすいカリフォルニアだけど、乾燥が続くと山火事が頻発する

I heard that there are fire disasters because of the dry weather in California.
水も貴重なので家の水道水で車を洗ってはいけないという州法があるそうだ
The water is valuable, so there is a state law which is prohibited washing cars.
通りで砂っぽい車が多い理由がわけだ
Now I agree with the cars covered by sand.
あと初めて知ったのはカリフォルニア南部は昔メキシコの領土だったそう
Moreover I didn't know that the southern part of CA was ruled by Mexico in the old days.
植物園でサボテンが生えている光景や地名がスペイン語だったりするのは
That is why I see many cactus at the botanical garden
メキシコの影響なのだと知りました
今日の夜は晩御飯を6人分作っている
For today's supper, she is cooking for 6 people.
毎週木曜日はママ友が子供3人を連れて訪問
Every thursday, her friend comes to her house with her three little kids.
パートナーが仕事で忙しい中、育児をラクに楽しくするために
Since their partners are busy for work, they help out to make the house-work easy.
1人が5人の子供の世話をしている間に1人が料理をつくる
One takes care of 5kids and the other cooks for them.
5人の世話も大変だけど、みんな仲良く遊べるからケンカだけしないように見守る
It doesn't sound easy to take care of 5kids, but she just watch and make sure not to fight or argue.
それぞれの独立した家庭で家事・育児するより心強い
It works better than they stay at their each house and cook and take care of kids by themselves.
こんな家庭がご近所さんにあるとよいと思いました
I wish I would have a family like this near my house.
